Why is ISO 9001 or ISO/TS 16949 No Longer Acceptable When Manufacturing for the Automotive Industry?
ISO/TS 16949, originally created in 1999, has been replaced with IATF 16949 – a standard that establishes the requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS), specifically for the automotive sector. As of October 2017, audits were no longer allowed to be conducted to ISO/TS 16949 and companies were required to transition to the new IATF 16949. The main focus or reason for the IATF 16949 standard is to be the framework for continual improvements and development of the QMS. IATF 16949:2016 is an independent QMS standard fully aligned with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
The standard is applicable to any organization that manufactures components, assemblies, and parts for supply to the automotive industry, including:
Production or service parts, assemblies
IATF 16949 emphasizes defect prevention and the reduction of variation, risk, and waste in the supply chain. Combined with applicable Customer-Specific Requirements (CSR’s), the new standard defines the current QMS requirements for production, service, and/or accessory parts throughout the automotive industry.
PHB Corp. is IATF 16949 Certified for CNC Machining and Die Casting | Automotive Certification
PHB Corp. has been certified as an IATF 16949:2016 compliant supplier for die casting, precision machining, and assembly operations. Completing the certification to this upgraded standard shows PHB’s strong commitment to maintaining automotive level quality standards for all customers. While PHB has been ISO/TS 16949 certified for years, PHB’s continued growth as an automotive aluminum die casting manufacturer and CNC machining company made it a necessity to advance our quality management system to IATF-16949. When the IATF 16949:2016 was published by the IATF, the ISO/TS 16949 was no longer an applicable quality management system.
Meeting these new requirements, PHB Corp. is able to continue to improve and elevate their quality management system. Making better products more efficiently. PHB Corp.’s Aluminum die casting, zinc die casting, CNC machining, and plastic injection molding divisions stand ready to leverage our improved quality management system to produce finished castings and products on time, every time, while continuously improving our process.
