CNC Machining in Pennsylvania
PHB Machining Division is a high capacity manufacturing facility that offers CNC machining services in Pennsylvania. We offer advanced machining at production levels for complex and high precision components throughout Pennsylvania and the rest of the US. We have a wide range of machines including lathes, horizontal machining centers, vertical machine centers, and a Palletech System to drive our production with efficiency and quality control. As a global manufacturing resource, we work with a wide range of industries including lighting, automotive, appliance, and the US military. Take a closer look at how our CNC machining in Pennsylvania can benefit you.
The History of CNC Machining in Pennsylvania
CNC machining dates back all the way to the late 1940s, with the first CNC machine being patented in 1958, but it didn’t experience wide expansion until the 1980s thanks to the rapid advancement of computer technology. This is when CNC machines became much faster and more versatile allowing it to serve a wider range of industries.
CNC machining has grown to offer diverse capabilities from producing simple items used around the house to incredibly complex aerospace components. With our massive facility and wide variety of machines, we offer high precision capability and flexibility in production levels, as well as assistance in design for manufacturability and logistical support. Our 130 dedicated employees run three different shifts to continuously optimize production, delivery, and effectiveness of our CNC machining efforts.
Our CNC Machining Capabilities
At PHB, our CNC machining services are malleable enough to handle a wide range of different orders all while maintaining the quality control expected of a world leader in this industry. We build all of our machining fixtures in house, so we can allow for a high degree of customization with short lead times. Our state of the art Quality Assurance lab ensures that every product shipped meets your standards and specifications with four coordinate measuring machines that perform in-process checks, PPAPs, and quarterly statistics.
In our facility, our available machines can handle spindle speeds of up to 18000 rpm and offer 4th axis capabilities. They consist of the following.
- 10 CNC lathes
- 27 CNC horizontal machine centers
- 12 CNC vertical machine centers
- 28-station Palletech system
Aluminum Casting Impregnation
Die castings made from aluminum and zinc can be faced with porosity, which is an air pocket (gas porosity) or metal shrink from thick to thin sections (shrink porosity). Our capabilities include aluminum and zinc casting impregnation to reduce porosity, as too much porosity could cause a part to fail when it is under pressure and unable to retain gas or fluids. Our processed castings will not change in appearance or dimensions, and impregnation can be implemented as cast or finish machined.
Fully Automated Systems with Human Quality Control
CNC machining does much to improve efficiency, as it fully automates the entire central production process. The software will read the dimensions given and order the machinery to craft the finished product all with the push of a button. CNC machining systems can simultaneously work with a variety of machine tools by combining functions, or they can direct several different machine areas to transfer parts from one machine to another as needed after being programmed to do so. Either way, it is a mostly hands-off endeavor.
While the process is largely automated, which reduces both cost and turnaround time, PHB’s commitment to quality means there are always going to be people checking the work for any errors. Our in-house Quality Assurance Lab has four coordinate measuring machines to check first piece layouts. Additionally, we offer Millipore testing that can optimize the cleanliness of parts while providing services like mag particle inspection and heat treating.
A Greater Level of Consistent Accuracy
CNC machining works by using a tested reliable program to consistently provide accurate results to the exact specifications over and over again. This level of accuracy combined with its notable efficiency creates production levels that simply cannot be met by manual work alone.
